I wanted to share one of the most amazing experiences I've ever had with all of you. On January 3rd, 2012 the Muscular Dystrophy Association held the Muscle Team Gala at the Chelsea Lighthouse in Manhattan. The Muscle Team Gala is a very high-profile sports dinner and auction to help raise funds needed to find a cure for neuro-muscular diseases. Muscular dystrophy is a defect in the musculoskeletal system that prevents function in the muscles it affects. There are multiple types of muscular dystrophy diseases that affect people all over the world.
At this years Muscle Team Gala there was a group of children with muscular dystrophy diseases who attended and helped raise awareness for muscular dystrophy. They all seemed so happy and thankful to be able to be there and it was an honor that I was able to attend on behalf of the Miss Universe Organization. Many of the attendees included Miss USA, the New York Giants, New York Jets, WWE's Sgt. Slaughter, and many other athletes and newscasters.
There was a silent auction there that had some of the coolest things you could imagine! There were numerous Jerseys from professional athletes, the Hockey Stick from the "Miracle On Ice" Olympic team, and for all of you Twilight fans, there was even a plaque of Robert Pattinson's signed T-shirt! This year we raised $1,000,000 which was way over our expected amount. It was really great to see the generosity from all of the people who had attended the Gala. I was so lucky to be apart of it and I had an amazing time.
