How To Get Out of the Winter Blues!

It's snowing. Again. At least in NY it is. But on a more positive note, it's the first day of Spring! So this means we need to do some self motivating to kick the winter blues out of our system and embrace the warmth that's in the near future. Aside from the obvious exercising and eating healthy, here are a few of my favorite ways to get my mind back in a brighter place!

1. Change your candles

Over the winter we usually choose scents that remind us of the holidays, baked cupcakes or a fireplace. Change them for something lighter like one of my favorites, Yankee Candle's Lemon Zest. Even if you usually use a more fruity scent, change it anyway just for some change... and if you don't use candles, start! I'm convinced they are influential mood changers.

2. Brighten up your home decor

I'm all for neutral colors. Actually... I have a white bed with an all white comforter and mirrored furniture. So i'm the queen of being bland lol. But one thing that brightens my mood and makes me feel more lively is adding colors. Whether I buy a few brighter pastel throw pillows, blankets or add colorful flowers (real or fake, doesn't matter), I feel like i've stepped into Spring happily. Sometimes sticking with nautical or earthy tones helps you feel like you're at the beach even when you're just at home.

3. Stop wearing all black

I'm SO guilty of this because it's just the easiest thing to throw together. Having lighter or brighter colors implemented into your wardrobe will just add some vibrancy to your day!

4. Work on your resolutions

It can be really motivating and a nice way to get your mind into a positive place when you're working on your goals. Whether or not you set resolutions back at the beginning of the year, make them now or fulfill any goal you have previously set. Even if you started slacking off, get yourself back into working towards these goals full force.

5. Get enough Vitamin D and Vitamin B12

Vitamin D can be obtained through sun exposure but that's not the healthy way of getting it. Taking a Vitamin D supplement or having foods like cheese, egg yolks and mushrooms will help level out your emotional hormones. Vitamin B12 can be absorbed through fish is great for regulating your nervous system.

What are your favorite ways to beat the winter blues?

Also, what topic do you want me to cover next?!
